About Me and My Blog

Me @ the Great Wall

Hello, my name is Jessica Caldwell. I am a teacher at a middle school in my home state of Georgia. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher, and I am constantly looking for new and interesting ways to teach my students. This is my eighth year teaching. I have taught for two years at an international school in China.  I also taught through Teach for America in Mississippi. Now I teach Earth Science to 6th graders!   I have a lot of growing to do, but I am determined to always do my best for my students. On this website you will find tales from my life teaching and hopefully some helpful resources.

Life Update!! I stepped away from my blog for a while during the adoption process of my beautiful two year old daughter! While going through the process I also obtained my Masters Degree, so it was a busy and eventful break. I am back now and I cannot wait to share resources with you all 🙂

Why from chopsticks to mason jars? When I taught in China chopsticks became a part of daily life, but now I have transitioned to a land where mason jars are more abundant than chopsticks. It is a huge difference and a challenge each day, but I am willing to go the distance for my students.

  1. I really enjoy reading your blog. I have never taught overseas; however, I grew up primarily in Libya and Iran so I appreciate reading about your experiences. I am grateful to my teachers who ventured away from their homes to teach those of us who lived in foreign lands. Your students here in the United States will certainly be enriched by hearing of your experiences in China.

  2. Hi Jessica,

I hope this email finds you well. You may find our book interesting. It’s called Making the Leap: An Insider’s Guide to Teaching in China.

The book explores the transitions one needs to make when teaching Chinese students an international curriculum at an international school in China.

Let me know if you’re interested in reviewing this book (impartially) in exchange for a free copy
